Red Rock Legacy Trail Groundbreaking

After more than 20 years of planning, Phase 1 of the Red Rock Legacy Trail is beginning construction in early July!

Save Red Rock was proud to speak at the private groundbreaking ceremony this morning:

We are incredibly proud and honored to be part of this special day. 20 years ago, we lost a dear friend and public servant Don Albietz, a Metro Police Officer and avid cyclist who was hit and killed by a truck while peacefully riding his bike along this very Scenic Byway.

Though we can never bring him back, that tragic event became the start of Save Red Rock and its mission to improve the safety, serenity and sustainability of Red Rock Canyon NCA, for all.

The idea of the Red Rock Legacy Trail was born out of a community partnership that we helped to create, which over the last two decades has remained committed to connecting, designing, funding, planning and now constructing a safe, off-road, shared use paved path for those looking to enjoy this stunning landscape. Save Red Rock was proud to have raised the first $12M in grant funding for this project, which kicked off what has now become a more than $100M, that we are so happy to see come to life today!

We would like to thank all the partners who made today possible: Clark County, BLM, NDOT, Federal Highways, RTC, Nevada State Parks, IMBA, SNBC, Get Outdoors Nevada and many more! It truly takes an incredible amount of work and manpower to achieve something like this, so I apologize if I forgot any of you, but please know that we are ecstatic about the fortitude and commitment you’ve all shown so that we can get here today.

We have big plans in the future for how to activate this trail, but for now, I happily join you all in celebrating this massive achievement. Thank you!
